WorldSkills Kazakhstan National championship

According to the “Action Plan for the implementation of priority directions of TVET development in 2014-2016” of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan (Objective 2, Mechanism 5) in 2014 Kazakhstan planned to entrance to the WSI.  NCSC “Holding “Kasipkor “(hereinafter – Holding) was defined as executor of this event.

Since the beginning of 2014, the Holding carried out a campaign for joining the association and meeting with the senior management of WorldSkills. The result of this work was the adoption of decision to approve the entrance of the Republic of Kazakhstan as the 70th Woldskills member in June 10, 2014 by the WorldSkills Board of Directors.

In July 17, 2014 at a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan G.N.Abdykalikova, Holding was determined as National operator of the WorldSkills Kazakhstan (hereinafter – WSK) project. Legal consolidation of this was specified by the №22 order of the Minister of Education and Science of RK from January 20, 2015 “About the determination of the NCSC “Holding “Kasipkor” as National operator of the WorldSkills Kazakhstan project in the Republic of Kazakhstan.”

Further, in August 2014, Astana held a conference dedicated to the prospects and opportunities of WSK project, with the participation of the WSI President, Mr. Simon Bartley.

National operator of WSK received all regulatory documents defining the organizational structure of the project (the Regulations on the National operator, the Organizing Committee, the Council of Experts, supervisory board of WSK project) and professional skills championships conduction rules.

In April 2015, the National operator WSK held the WSK National championship and formed the National team in the following competencies: bricklaying, plastering and dry wall systems, welding, turnery, restaurant service (the cook), hairdressing and IT systems management.

Specialized locations of championship:

–           “Hairdressing” – “Tony&Guy” beauty salon;

–           “Welding” – Technical vocational college;

–           “Restaurant service” – ‘Gourmet’ consulting group;

–           “Turnery” – Technical vocational college;

–           “IT systems management” – Nazarbayev University Technopark;

70 participants from Astana, Almaty and 13 regions attended the championship. The participation of almost all regional centers shows high interest of students and TVET organizations to this championship.

Moreover, employers have shown considerable interest in the National championship. More than 50% of winners (winners of gold, silver and bronze medals) received job offers.

National Championship received wide coverage in the media (according to ratings published online, the news about WSK from April 8-9 was in the “top news of the day”). This proves that the project is an effective tool in students’ professional orientation.

Thus, WorldSkills Kazakhstan fully became an innovative event, which attracted the attention of society and contributes to the promotion of technical professions in Kazakhstan.
